Ruth Achieng

Ruth Achieng is an engineer at Kenya’s Nuclear Power and Energy Agency (NuPEA). She has a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering and a postgraduate Master of Science degree in Nuclear Science and Technology, both obtained from the University of Nairobi.

Ruth has a passion for clean and sustainable energy solutions, key among which is nuclear energy applications. She has five years of working experience in the energy sector. At the Agency, Ruth demonstrates her commitment to advancing the use of safe nuclear applications, through conducting various technical research in Nuclear Supply Chain studies, Reactor Technology Assessments for both large reactors and small modular reactors, emergency planning and response, nuclear security, and site studies.

Additionally, Ruth’s MSc. Research involves assessment of radio ecological toxicity caused by NORMs and Radon , and monitoring of occupational exposure to ionizing radiation.

Ruth is a member of various nuclear societies including Kenya young Generation in Nuclear (KYGN), and Women in Nuclear Kenya ( WiN-Ke ). Additionally, Ruth is also dedicated to gender mainstreaming activities to promote diversity and inclusion in the workplace and is also well versed in risk enterprise management. She represents her organization and department as the focal person/champion in both cases.
