
Brian Nyawinda is an Energy Policy Analyst at Nuclear Power and Energy Agency (NuPEA). He holds an MSc.in Engineering from Seoul National University, South Korea, and has various Post Graduate Policy Fellowships in Nuclear Security, Non-proliferation Education and Research (NEREC) from Korea Advance Institute of Science and Technology, KAIST, S.Korea,
He also has Nuclear Leadership credentials from World Nuclear University (Osaka, Japan), Nuclear Energy Management from International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP), Trieste, Italy and Atomic Reporting from the Citizen Journalism Academy, Austria,Vienna. He has also done project management from the Strathmore Business School.
He has worked with the Agency for the past nine years in the Technical Affairs and Strategy and Planning Directorates. His duties in the Technical Affairs Directorate primarily entailed implementing the Strategic Plan for the Nuclear Power Programme in Kenya through carrying out technical studies, as well as drafting policies and strategies for various nuclear infrastructure issues.
In the Strategy and Planning Directorate, his responsibilities include evaluating the status of funding and financing for nuclear infrastructure, national nuclear leadership and management implementation, integrated management system framework development, participating in the implementation of the Agency’s Strategic Plan, maintaining the Agency’s quality management system (ISO 9001), conducting cost-benefit analyses for the research reactor project, and representing the Agency in the national energy planning technical committee responsible for generation planning and demand forecasting.
Brian is a professional member of the International Association for Energy Economics (IAEE), the World Institute for Nuclear Security (WINS), the East Africa Association of Radiation Protection, and the Institute of Risk Management Kenya.
