
Collins Omondi is the current Head of Civil Nuclear Applications, at The Africa Commission on Nuclear Energy (AFCONE), Pretoria, South Africa. He has a B.Sc in Physics at University of Nairobi and M.Sc. in Physics at Kenyatta University, and currently Ph.D. Physics candidate at Kenyatta University.
Previously, Collins was Head of Dosimetry at the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) and head of Radiation Training, Eastern Africa Association of Radiation Protection (EAARP). He also served as the IAEA Project coordinator for Establishment of National Laboratory for Radio- analytical, Surface Contamination and Personnel Monitoring Measurement. Collins was the Africa Regional Project coordinator on Enhancing Regional Capabilities on Occupational Radiation Protection also in charge of the project on expanding the Scope of Secondary standard Dosimetry Laboratory (SSDL).
Collins was also the coordinator on project on Establishment of System for Education, Training, Qualification and Certification for NDT personnel and Radiotracer and a member of technical Working Group on Risk Assessment for Nuclear Power Programme. Collins has also served as a member of the National Nuclear Fuel Cycle and Radioactive Waste Management Policy and Strategy, the Technical Working Group reviewing Draft Nuclear Energy Policy and as a member of National Industrial Involvement Policy and Strategy Team for Kenya Nuclear Power Program
Scientific activities that Collins has been involved in include bilateral comparisons for radiation protection level for Air Kerma measurement standards, Proficiency Test (PT) measurement on dosimeters (OSLD) and Joint seawater Proficiency Test (PT). A seasoned professional he has been part of significant Nuclear Scientific fellowships such as GAEC in Ghana, TAEC in Tanzania, T&AM of USA, PTB of Germany, IAEA SSDL in Austria, BIPM in France, ICTP in Italy and GAEC in Greece
