
Agar Omondi’s academic background is in Nuclear and Quantum engineering from institutions like KAIST (South Korea), KTH Royal Institute of Technology (Sweden) and UniversitĂ© Paris-Saclay (France). Other institutions attended include the Czech Technical University (CTU) in Prague, Institut national des sciences et techniques nuclĂ©aires (INSTN) and Centrale Supelec both of which are affiliated with CEA Saclay in France.
Agar also holds a diploma in Project Management and entrepreneurship from the Esade Business School in Barcelona, Spain.
Specializing in Gen IV Technology and requirements management, Agar has worked on advanced reactor projects such as the Lead Bismuth Eutectic (LBE) accelerator driven MYRRHA, currently under construction at the Belgian Nuclear Research Centre (SCK CEN) campus in Mol, Belgium. He has also been involved in the molten salt technology project whose alternative Thorium Fuel cycle is being explored by The Thorium Network of Zug, Switzerland.
Agar is a member of the BRICS Youth Energy Agency Young Expert Group in Nuclear Energy and Technology where he has explored applications of nuclear techniques in agriculture and the economics of SMR and Gen-4 technology in the developing world. He sits on the ENLIT Africa Advisory board as the nuclear expert, a NEREC Scholar from his years at KAIST in Korea and an EDF Fellow following his time in France.
Agar is a member of several professional organizations e.g the Korea Nuclear Society (KNS) and the Engineers of Sweden. Locally, he is a part of the East Africa Association of Radiation Protection (EAARP) and Africa Young Generation in Nuclear (AYGN).
Agar was on Business Daily Africa List of the Top 40 Under 40 (men) for 2024. He is columnist on the same publication where he comments on technology and the policies that govern it. Agar’s stated mission is ensuring that when that time comes for nuclear to be adopted wholeheartedly by our species, there will be enough young voices from the global south at the table to be heard.
